The Interview

Jenna Lyons, the former president and creative director of J.Crew started her own business for the first time, focusing on the intersection of lifestyle, home, and fashion. Stylish with Jenna Lyons brought together a team of creatives to compete for a coveted position on her team.

Challenge No. 1: Reinventing the Classics

CONTEXT––

When it comes to fashion or design, Jenna’s always looking for ways to reinvent the classics. The idea is to take a “statement” piece or high-ticket item, mix it with “less expensive or collected” pieces and find exciting ways to create a unique look.

GAMEPLAN––

Each Associate got to choose one statement/high-ticket item from Rent the Runway and then had to build a complete look for under $250.

Challenge No. 2: The Office

CONTEXT––

When Jenna and the team put together the office, she imagined an inviting and communal space, a place that inspired creativity and collaboration. Instead of formal seating, there are long sawhorse tables wrapped in muslin put together with pieces from Home Depot.

Challenge No. 3: Monochrome Look

CONTEXT––

Going monochrome is a fantastic look for high-profile occasions; it’s also a fun way to play with what’s already in your closet just for work or going out, or hanging out on the weekend.

And yes – the simplest version of a monochromatic outfit is wearing the same color head to toe. But there are ways to make monochromatic looks more exciting and adaptable to everyday life.

GAMEPLAN––

Each Associate was given a color (I got blue!) and was tasked with pulling together a monochrome look for under $250.

Challenge No. 4: The Pop-Up

CONTEXT––

A virtual pop-up shop, aka @popupish, features a selection of brands that Jenna’s personally curated. By promoting local businesses creating exciting and innovative products, Jenna hopes she can help them get some shine along with crucial financial support.

GAME PLAN––

Source three products in any category (health, wellness, skincare, decor) for the pop-up.
